Get to Know Us

Boo Centraal draws from a rich tapestry of avid teenage listening and rooting through the smoky, beer-stained music of the 1960s and 70s, mixed with an appreciation for classical long-form composition, all the way through a long jazz education, and a glance at the psychedelic music coming out in the 2010s.

About Us.

After spending years listening to records, playing in bands, studying in conservatories, and watching the world go up in flames; I decided that the only logical thing to do was to throw my hat in the ring and start writing songs.  Instead of haranguing people about how good x song is or just how y was recorded or what date z died on a toilet; I thought that I could instead sheepishly show two songs that I had written to my friends and peers.

It got easier and easier, from grinding my teeth til they were practically dust, to being able to put on a façade of complete composure while showing my stuff to people, the reaction was pretty surprising.  All of a sudden, a dry, almost extinct well started to become a vast, unwieldy sea of confidence; something I had never experienced before.  I thought there was only one thing for it: keep writing!

Every step of the way with this project has been me putting a toe outside of my comfort zone.  From getting friends to play my tunes with me, organizing MY rehearsals of MY music; to setting up illegal gigs (Covid times, baby) booking our first tour, organizing recording dates, this has been an amazing journey already and we’re barely out the door!

All culminating in a fresh, yet instantly recognizable sound that is only ever growing and searching as the material is written and the band progresses.  The subject matter is often biographical but poetic license is never far away for that spicy je ne sais quoi.

Boo Centraal is here to stay.

Was I Just Dreaming?

This is a tune about taking someone you love for granted.  A big part of that is also being in your own head and not communicating with that same person.

Actions have consequences but everyone can ultimately do what they want.

I would think that that's an encouraging thought as, if you start making the right actions, you'll start getting the right consequences.

Live and learn.

Debut Single Out Now!

Watching the Rain

This is a tune that I came up when I decided to start songwriting.

At a glance, it's a song about a relationship - nothing new or exciting there.

However, I wanted to make it more complex and to put my own feelings into it.  I can be a pretty indecisive person, I think a lot of us can be, and I think showing a character going back and forth, struggling with themselves and not looking for a second opinion rings true to me.

I suppose sometimes we might feel that we cannot reach out, we have to deal with everything internally.

That's what this song is about, to me at least.
